I though HP standard warranty for that is 1 year, correct me if I am wrong. So for extra £20, I though it may worth going for John Lewis, unless OP got one of those credit card with extended warranty/ nationwide flex plus account
Or another one to consider is Asus X200CA with 1007u. £300 if order online.

Main reason is Asus is generally more reliable than HP.0 -
I'm on my second Medion, a 17" i5 (heavy but I like the larger screen) The first lasted over 3 years and is awaiting repair, but the problem is my fault. Specs are higher than similarly priced other models.
They have regular promotions with extra money off and will keep you up to date with these, if you take their emails.0 -
Hi bod. Is Daughter already at Uni? why I ask is that when OH's DD and my Niece went to UNI we thought a lightweight Laptop would be best for carrying around. However, neither have actually ever taken their lappy's out of their flats, they just use data sticks to carry the data around and notebooks to take notes.
Edit- Notebooks as in the paper versions not the Laptops.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
#1 is in 3rd year at uni. Low weight is her specific request, so she must lump it about.

#1 has decided to go for the HP laptop from John Lewis (with 2 year warranty).

Just #2 to sort now. I looked at the Tosh from PCW but it's out of stock at the mo.

I think the 11.6" HP's are a good size compromise, and it has an HDMI port, if daughter probably has an LCD TV at uni so she can just plug the Netbook into that with a cable and use it as a large monitor if she needs to rest the eyes.0
