Did egg pre tick their PPI box in 2004. I know I definitely did not tick it.

As Society's Child says, the question I asked is harsh but it is also the first one that a complaints handler at egg will ask.Well, thanks so much for your unhelpful and rude comments.
The complaints handler will be paid to ask it!I guess I should've known that posting on here would've provoked an amateurish response.
That depends, doesn't it. If one does not have the opportunity to learn then clearly not. It's not your fault that you're uneducated.
If, on the other hand, one is provided with the information month in, month out, for several years but does not bother to actually read it, then the question in my previous post seems to be appropriate.
You did. My response was a question which you do not like but really need to face.I will ask a professional instead who knows what they are talking about!0 -
Just saw this and wondered if you were you successful in your claim against Egg ,as I had the same reply and was turned down by ombudsman0

Some companies DID default to PPI. I had held an M&S chargecard for some time, which was automatically converted to a Mastercard a while ago. I didn't have a problem with this - a letter had forewarned me of the plan and I had had the option of declining the change.
However, what I did have a problem with, was the inclusion of PPI. It was shown on my account as £2 - not because it was linked to any balance (I always pay it off in full every month) but this £2 was the 'policy' admin charge. I've no idea if this would have been a monthly payment, or if it was just a one-off - but I rang M&S to say that I didn't want it, didn't need it and would probably never be able to claim on it in any case.
The 'policy' administrator went into full sales mode, rattling off all the benefits of the plan. I explained that I always paid off the card every month and so didn't have a debt to cover. She had the script answer to that as well - if I lost my job, I might use the card more, yadda yadda. I then asked her under what circumstances I would be able to claim on the policy and she replied if I was unable to work and had no income, I WOULD be able to claim. I replied that as an Armed Forces pensioner I would continue to receive my pension regardless of my employment or health status. I got my £2 back.0 -
The FOS and the banks know when companies had pre-ticked / opt-out boxes. There is no point claiming this was the case unless you know it was
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
