It is wonderful to see real lamps back in use!
I shall drop a few hints to Himself, and see if I can get him both to use them more often and teach our lads how to strip, clean, reassemble & correctly operate them. In years to come, it may be a useful skill for them!
(This from a household that makes & burns rushlights for occasional fun and illumination.)0 -

Thank you so much for posting the photos, DH is now playing with it to get it set right. Looking good so far, can't wait for it to get dark so I can use it! :j
Have you any idea how old the lamp is? I can't believe I have found someone with exactly the same lamp :rotfl:0 -
I had it new for my 40th birthday from a little hardware shop and that was 25 years ago ( well nearly 26 if I'm honest!) and we've never had to replace the wicks in all that time. I love it on in the evenings but we limit ourselves these days as the fuel for it is expensive and I've got a couple of the Ikea Sunnan Solar Lamps which run for free on sunlight. Having said that, It's lovely at christmas when Carols from Kings are on on christmas eve and we've got the woodstove lit, Mmmmmmmm heaven. Hope you can sort your lamp out and get it running properly and then ENJOY, Lyn and He Who Knows and Docky Dog xxx.0

That sounds heaven, DH said it was bought from a coal merchants some years ago.
Thank you so much for your help, lovely to have these objects being used. X0 -
I have the same lamp, just brought home from my Mum's a few days ago when she went into the care home. She used to keep it in the downstairs loo to stop the pipes freezing and just take the edge off he temperature. She hasn't used it for a while but we have a DIY shop which should be able to supply me with paraffin and new wicks if needed. Feels lovely to have something 'real' IYSWIM.0

and beautiful lamps they are too! I vaguely remember my nan using an old oil lamp with a globe shade (a bit similar to yours) during a power cut when I was a child - have no idea where it went as it wasn't there when we cleared the house.0
