Used Car Advice please
Hi guys
Looking for some advice please - wasn't sure who else to ask!
We are looking at buying a used Golf - 62 plate. Been to the local dealer & they have several, all of which are diesel.
My questions are -
1) Is a diesel good for me? We will do about 10,000 miles a year. Mon-Fri usually short 20 min journeys, weekends will get more of a run out.
2) All of the cars have bewteen 9-17,000 miles on the clock. Is this 'high mileage' or just normal? I'm not overly worried about the mileage as I think it will even itself out when we get the car!
Thanks in advance!

Only you can know if diesel is good for you, if the majority of your journeys were long runs, then perhaps the extra rumoured MPG may coe through, but short hops and the winter heater (or lack of) and you may not be so euphoric about the purchase, the mileage is nowt really, still within warranty.0 -
Turbo petrol maybe better suited to your driving.0

20 minute journey's around here in thr rush hour is less than a mile.
A modern diesel will hate a journey like that. Slower to warm up also.
Over 200,000 is high mileage. If your doing less than average then buying a car with a higher mileage makes sense.
Over time your lower average mileage will being the car into line with similar aged models yet you paid less for the car and will be selling it for the same money as the other cars.
Unless your going to be doing a lot of miles then it wont be an issue. If you do 40,000 miles a year you wont want a car with 100,000 miles on it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
10,000 miles annually is nothing. I'd get a petrol for this. Probably cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain and service and petrol is cheaper than diesel fuel anyway. As said above, diesels hate shorter journey's.
between 9-17,000 miles is not high mileage at all, so don't worry on that score0 -
Thanks all, really appreciate your replies. Lots to think about, car buying is hard :-\0

Another vote for a petrol car.
The Golf can be had with a small petrol engine, as can the Octavia and Seat Toledo.
I would think a Toledo or Octavia with the 1.2 turbo engine would be a better bet than the Golf.
You could likely get a new Octavia or Toledo from Drive the Deal or Broadspeed for less than a year old Golf.
Fifth Gear recently tested an Octavia and reckoned it was a better value buy than a Golf.0 -

My SIL has a 1.2 Turbo Beetle and i genuinely thought it was a 1.6 petrol. Lovely to drive.0
