The problem is that HMG can borrow cheaply on the open market so doesn't really need to borrow from the public.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

So the UK has fallen into deflation. Be interesting to see how this shows in the 4 year NS&I rough valuation which will probably be updated later today:

If they wouldn't know what to do with the money if they extracted it, it might be as well to leave it where it is. It's insurance against inflation turning upwards again. Or, they could split their risks and take part out. Do they have a good cash sum put by for emergencies?
Free the dunston one next time too.

So the calc has been updated and I get 12.84% over 4 years i.e. an average of 3.21% per year.

It's good to see a monthly gain of 0.35% and RPI finally back above its previous October high.

In case this may be of interest. I've just cashed in my 5-year ILSC. The overall flat rate of interest is 4.456% per annum.

I've monitored its value from time to time during the period and these are the figures:

at the 24 month stage 5.832% per annum
at the 31 month stage 5.288% per annum
at the 51 month stage 4.866% per annum
at the 56 month stage 4.727% per annum

So it does fluctuate and not always in the direction you want it to. The rate actually earned is of course very satisfactory.

In advance of the calculator update on Tues.

The June figures meant that over 4 years and 1 month I calculated an increase of 13.15%.

I make that 3.22% per year.

    The calculator has been updated.

Looks to be a 0.5% decrease from last months value.

The July figures meant that over 4 years and 2 month I calculated an increase of 12.62%.

I make that 3.02% per year.
