My understanding is that ALL wood flooring dries when laid which can mean it expands meaning if it is fitted too close to edge of room then as it can`t `stretch` outwards it will rise in the middle.
Any competent joiner should know this and therefore the flooring should be stored in the room where it is to be laid for at least 48 hours (some suggest 2 weeks) before it is to be fitted , preferably longer , giving the wood time to climitise .
If this was not done then it`s a mistake by the joiner and not a fault in the wood
Following may explain better about natural expansion of woden floors and what the joiner should have done . Personally I`m inclined to think it`s laying problem but if he insists it`s a product failure ask him to state that in writing and take it up with supplier . You`ll know by his response if this is genuine or if he`s bull54tt1ng you

thanks all
the joiner just refuses to reply
i bought the wood from costco and both time its kifted of at the same spot leading me to believe it to be a laying problem0 -
Is it front of a window, or somewhere the sun can shine on it ??
How much was the wood per sq mtr ???0 -
its in th lounge which is 21/12 ft
the wood is lifting off right in the middle next to fireplace which has not been used since it was laid down
the same wood has been used in 2 other rooms, they seem fine
the cost of wood was around 28£ and laying cost me another 10£/sqm0 -
It sounds like expansion to me. If the joint is peaking on the length of the board then there is no or little expansion gap on the length of the room, same applies on the width. Did you have beading/scotia fitted? If so i would take this off and check to make sure that there is enough room for the flooring to expand. Normal peaking occurs when the wood/laminate hits a solid point and pushes back on itself.
A point to note is that suitable expansion should be all around the room, including around the fireplace and door jams as well.....and it depends as to the manufacturer as to how much this should be..can be 5 mm all round and even 20 mmI have nothing better to do!!!!

it could be expansion. Is the bump in line with a door opening at all?
It happened to ours and it was actually down to the fact that it wasnt secured properly at the threshold of the door. It had the laminate to laminate flooring trims which didnt hold it down tight enough causing it to bump. We had to fix it securely at the threshold which stopped the bumping. Or maybe it has got wet causing it to expand, but i would think that it would have to have gor really wet, ie saturated to make it buckle.
Life's way too short!
