bt changed changed my direct debit payment date with 24hours notice to me

Hello
My direct debit is usually collected on the 12 of whichever month it is due for years and years.
Suddenly this month I receive 2 e-mails about my billing one on the 6th and one on the 7th telling me they can collect my D.D. 8 days from my bill date 30th oct.
The money went out on the 7th from my bank account.
I read on their website that I should be notified 6 working days if any change in date etc.
They seem to have their own rules.
I don't accept that they are saying I have been given notice from my bill date.
Can anyone advise please.
Thanks.
I rang their call centres and other than giving me the address of their customer servcie to write to, they couldn't answer my query.
Those e-mails aren't right are they?

So was I (but obviously too subtly :D). My bone of contention with BT is they have spent over a billion spondooliks on BT Sport, then announced it is 'free' whilst looking at recouping the costs stealthily from its whole customer base (last time I checked 90% of which doesn't even have BT Sport). It's intrinsically wrong imo. This is the latest ruse in recouping their costs - getting the money in quicker. Others include putting charges up by way more than inflation. BT customers were already paying a premium for 'being BT customers' without charging them for a supposedly 'free' service that so few customers actually use.

Blimey someone else agrees with me!!!
Don't forget BTs Fatuous Football Fantasy continues with a £BILLION being spent on the Champions League.
Yes that's three times the going rate!!
Insanity, no wonder they've got to gouge out ordinary BT customers bank accounts.

But just try getting BT customers to see it for what it is - in some cases it's impossible! No wonder they still dominate the market with an overpriced service with overseas call centres with customers who no matter what is thrown at them doggedly avoid making the switch. Madness. #apathyUK

PS I didn't know about the Champions League. Blimey, more stealth increases on the way.

State Monopoly now a near private Monopoly.
It's about Customer Care you're a Customer and they don't Care.
Rapidly becoming as hated as Ryanair.

BT Retail have slowly but surely been losing market share in their core business of landlines and broadband (no big surprise there) So the spend on BT Sport is an attempt to turn themselves into a pay TV provider in the hope of emulating Sky. It's a very big gamble...especaily as Talktalk have put on a vast number of TV customers since they offered YouView. I'm not convinced there is enough demand to keep 4 providers in this business. And Sky aren't going to sit back and let their business decline.
They could of course have instead overhauled their customer service and tried to win back some market share with more attractive pricing-but I guess that going down the BT Sport route looked like a more 'exciting' option.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

What will be the response when they try and outbid Sky for the next Premiership rights.
The money being bandied around is complete lunacy.

I think it will all end in tears, personally. BT are not in any way Sky, this is new ground for them and the money they have spent tends to suggest they are naive in the extreme. But they have the enviable advantage of being a former state monopoly with a customer base who would have left ages ago if they had any sense. They haven't so the pretense continues.

Only time will tell if this pays off, but BSkyB lost 11% of their value on Monday, £1.5 billion as a direct result of BT's move.
