I know a lot as been said on macs or windows, but laptop as died looking into getting a new one,we have apple and Microsoft at work,I like the fact that Apple do seem to keep updates simple whereas Microsoft completely change the os so you need to get a new laptop to get the latest OS but their new windows8 does not sound to good.
Anyway I'm thinking of getting a macbook, now there are a few company's selling refurbished macs, what is anyone view on these.

Personally I would only consider buying a refurbed mac from Apple themselves as you get the same cover as buying a brand new out the box mac.
i know very little about these other stores, like Maple, but £630 seems extremely cheap for what is now a £1000 machine... I know this may be an older model, not sure why you'd want to spend so much more on an old model...
Also what are you going to use the machine for to justify spending more than you need to spend on a Windows machine?

This sums it up perfectly. A MacBook is a great piece of kit, and I have thoroughly put mine through its paces - for which it has coped admirably.

If you have the need for a MacBook, then you probably don't want to spending what is still a lot of money on an old model. Perhaps you know someone who could utilise their student discount on a new model or, as suggested above, look at the refurbs from Apple directly.

You are right that MacBook updates are substantially smoother, but the ability and ergonomics of future updates shouldn't really be a deciding factor, but will inevitably be a factor nonetheless.
