Credit account

MSE forum newbie so im sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.
Last night i was going to open up a littlewoods account and got to the stage after you have a credit check and your ready to sign, but i wanted a night to think about it so i come off it and went back on today to set it up and its denying me saying that they can not give me a credit account on this occasion after a credit check. Would this be because i had a credit check last night and passed but because i didnt accept last night i have to wait a while before my credit check will allow me to open an account?

All suggestions would be helpfull and once again sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

  • Possibly, but I doubt this would be the case. Your best option would be to check your credit file using either Noddle or Experian - personally I would use Noddle.

Do you have any arrears \ missed payments \ CCJ's - are you on the electoral role and have you been in your job \ current address for a while. All of these will have an impact on your credit rating.
  • My credit score should be fine, the only things ive ever had in credit is my mobile phone contract and i pay that early every time. its just confused me how last night i was able to and it would let me however today it wont, Thankyou for your reply

You don't have a credit score, at least not a meaningful one. The number that Experian et al give you (in exchange for money) doesn't mean anything...mainly because they don't lend money!

Only having one credit account is not a good thing. Lenders like to see several (but not too many!) well managed accounts, both active and settled. That's what builds a credit history/rating (not "score").

Have you considered giving them a ring? Maybe the first application actually went through, or someone there can overturn the second application rejection.
  • Ill try giving them a call, thankyou for your help
  • Littlewoods (Shop Direct Group) search Equifax not Experian nor Call Credit.
