Combined Postage

A colleague bought three items from the same seller, originally they were listed with three pounds postage each, the seller has combined the three items on one invoice and the postage is now nine pounds.
The three items will go in one bag and post for three pounds easily.
She is not going to pay nine pounds postage and has emailed and requested it be changed to three or similar.
What would happen if she get no joy with the seller, she does not want to pay nine but does not want three unpaid item cases against her either

    Hi.

Basically there is not much choice. Your friend should have asked before bidding.

I made the same mistake myself once and the buyer would not change the amount so I did this: It was 3 separate listings so I requested 3 separate invoices and insisted on 3 separate packages.
To ensure this I paid for just 1 item at a time, and then waited till it was flagged as despatched before paying for the next one.

Either way, if the seller won't budge then your friend will have to pay the full amount or suffer the consequences. Maybe its better just to regard this as a learning experience?

If the seller does reduce the price don't forget that they have to allow for packaging, paypal and ebay charges in the price.

Pretty much what has been said above. It's up to the buyer to check the seller will combine and reduce postage before bidding if it doesn't say so on the listing. It won't hurt to ask if they could reduce the postage.

if they won't budge, I like the idea of forcing the seller to send separately as after all, that's what you're paying for.

You will also be able to consider their attitude when leaving feedback for what the postage has cost and the associated stars.

Has the seller actually sent an invoice?

Ebay will automatically group purchases from the same seller together without any input from the seller, Ebay just add it all together.

If it's just done by Ebay then a polite email to the seller asking if they can be posted together for a discount is fine. Many sellers will do something.
if i had known then what i know now
  • oh I like that idea about separate parcels, could you ask them to send to separate addresses to make sure it is done, just make up an excuse that they are for different people and if you are paying postage anyway they might as well get sent direct. The only drawback to this is you will not be able to leave negative feedback but I still think I would prefer this option, I could image how peeved a seller would be, after realising they will now not make the extra profit.

Why can't they leave NEGS again? And why would they want to?

mikey bach whats the value of items? Last week i was asked to group 3 items together to save postage. But grouping them together would actually INCREASE postage - as special delivery would be needed for the insurance.

Its not always cheaper to send together.

And as stated above - did the seller send a new invoice - or did EBAY group them together - and the seller is being unfairly blamed?
  • The Items are worth £5 in total, and are t shirts... The seller sent the invoice and has not replied to any messages asking to reduce the postage..
They will easily go in one grey bag and cost £3. She cant pay seperately as they have been grouped them togegether on one invoice the seller has done this....

Of course they could leave negative if they wanted to but it would be very unfair to do so if you had insisted that three separate parcels be delivered as you would have then paid for that.

If they have access to any of the mobile apps, they can pay individually through those.

They have found a way to pay for one at a time, will as advised await for it to be dispatched then pay for the next one then the last one

Why? What could the buyer possibly gain from this?
