Translation will not be an issue... I have already paid €130 in resort to have it translated

Why dont I just redo it here? We could but I shouldn't have to. I paid document fees, legalisation fees and others on top of wedding fees and shouldn't have this problem.

Thanks kefi. I will email them this afternoon. I don't understand the furlore either. Although it's clear the coordinator gave us wrongful advice. Apparently Lindos are very strict on it being only the groom who can retrieve the certificate. Crazy.

Is this an official translation? I had a Hungarian friend who needed to get translations of documents relating to her education etc. accepted by a university here. Each one had to be officially stamped by the the Hungarian embassy to verify it was a true translation with a substantial fee to be paid each time.

Good luck - hopefully Kefi's suggestion will let you get the paperwork.

Interesting figures there, and you didn't get a certificate and then you say

    Absolutely.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

I presume so, then again I wont be surprised if not the way things are going.

I emailed those who Kefi suggested and recieved a prompt reply stating she had spoken to the person at Lindos town hall who wanted me to email them directly. Have done so and awaiting a response.

    Thank you all.

I agree. BUT! At the present time, you cannot prove that you are married and have no idea when that situation might change, nor how much cost will be incurred.

If - heaven forbid - something should happen to you or your spouse such as a sudden serious illness or worse, you MIGHT at some point encounter difficulties if you do not have supporting documents. (I'm thinking in terms of financial affairs, making healthcare decisions on behalf of a spouse etc).

Having a quick, cheap Register Office ceremony should not IMHO replace the certificate you hope to obtain from Greece eventually but would provide that added peace of mind.

    Congratulations by the way
  • Personally it would just be putting a bit of a dampner on getting married, the continued hassle of getting the certificate that's why I would just do the official ceremony over here.

    Congratulations too

In reply to those who think that you may not be legally married when you marry in Greece. YES YOU ARE. Whatever the Greek's faults, the registering of births, deaths and marriages is thoroughly in order. If your wedding was officiated by the Lindos Registrar, then all is in order. You do not have to marry in the Town Hall. I presume you married in St Paul's Bay.Stay calm you will get your certificate.
A note.. get another copy when you are there. They are very cheap. You need to have the reference number ie the number it is entered in the register which is at the top. WHen I had to renew my British passport here in the UK, I mentioned that my marriage cert. was in Greek and I didn't have a translation. The Passport Office said send it in in Greek and we will counter check it. I did this and got my passport no problem! Kalo riziko (Good Luck in your marriage).

I must admit if I were told to collect a certificate from a Greek office the day after my wedding my first question would be what are the office hours?
