Cordless Telephone Ring gone Haywire ???

I have had a cordless phone for about 2 yrs and after recently moving house and reconnecting the phone the ring tone on my phone seems to be out of sync ! Instead of a breaking ringing tone ....... drrhhhh, drhhhhh, I get a continuous drhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh tone ! (Sorry for the dramatics, couldn't think how to explain the problem ;)).

Anyway, I wondered whether it was the fault of the rechargeable batteries not charging properly or the unit itself but as it is a Panasonic I would have thought it would have lasted longer.

The continual tone is driving my husband and me potty, how can I find out what is wrong ?

The batteries in the handset more than likely went flat while you were moving, and now the handset has reset itself to default settings.
There will more than likely be an option in the setup menu to change it back to a standard British ringtone.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

I have checked the book and there is no mention of changing it back to a standard British ringtone, there is only two ringtones, both similar, one shrill and one more muted but the same ring tone basically. I have now tried switching off the power on the handset and switching back on again and will wait to see if that changes anything, I have also cleaned the contacts on both the base and handset. It does mention something in the handbook about power failures (which whilst moving would mean the same thing whilst it was disconnected from the power) but just suggests plugging in a standard corded phone to the same telephone line jack using a "T" adaptor??? Not quite sure what that means.:) Perhaps if the measures I have taken don't work, I can switch it off for a few hours and try resetting it from scratch and see if that makes any difference.

We have the option for different ringtones on our Panny handset, what model do you have?

Have you even tried to change the ring tone to something else, and back again? If you have a mobile, call your line to find out if this works (Rather than waiting till someone else calls). If that does nothing completely remove the batteries for a few hours and plug in again, then go through setting a ringtone.

The T stuff is really more as a preventative as if you have a power cut your phones wont work, thus having a corded plugged in means you will always have a phone working even in power cuts. as they say in times of no power, you can't use it to make an emergency call. I do keep a cheapy £5 corded around as a just in case, but never used it!

I have a Panasonic KX-TG6621EB which only has two ringtones, basically the same pattern of ring but one more shrill sounding than the other. I have tried changing it but as i say, it is basically the same ringtone for both handset and base which can be set separately but one is just a bit more shrill sounding than the other.

I will try taking out the batteries for a few hours and see if that works. I do have a corded phone also that I can use in the meantime.

The spec for the phone seems to indicate there are quite a few tones and melodies (whats the difference).

Edit : But the user manual is very confusing on this issue

Exactly my point - one page refers to setting the volume of the ringtone and the other refers to the setting of the number of rings before the machine answers the calls, but nothing else - no alternative ring melody or tones.

Anyway I have tried removing the batteries, switching off the base and resetting it from scratch and still nothing has changed.

    I am completely mystified

The base will have settings and so will the handset.

On the handset select base settings. I presume its lost the time and date also.
