HELP. Just found a job and my Job Seekers...

Hi.
Really need help.
Went to my last sign on date on the 29th of October, everything went fine, continued to seek work and on the 11th of November i received an email inviting me to a work trial on the 14th of November.
I went along, and was originally supposed to be there between 8 and 11 am but they asked if I would like to stay for the rest of the day so i did.
I was asked back the following day with the same hours as everyone else, 6am until 5.30pm.
It was a 1 week trial and i new i had to sign on on the 12th, but i didnt want to jepordise my chances of being offered the job, so on saturday morning i sent the job centre an email with all the details of my situation and was awaiting a reply.
They did not get back to me by today so i asked my partner to ring them and explain what is going on and find out if there is anyway we can reschedule the interview.
They told my partner however that because i found this job on my own, not through them, and did not inform them (even though i emailed them as soon as it was possible (as i do not have internet access or a phone with credit) that they will not sign me on, even though i have the job searches to prove i was seeking work up untill the 14th untill i started the work trial.
I think this is absolute bo**ocks. Because i used my own initiative and started a work trial i am not entitled to my signing on money?
If it was just me on my own, i would swallow it and accept it for the fact i never have to go down there again and see the useless a**holes again, but i have a daughter to feed and rent to pay.
My new employer knows i need to sign on and said its fine, so i will be going there tomorrow anyway
They told my partner i will be referred to a decision maker and i will not recieve the sign on money and our housing benefit will be stopped.
I just dont see how this works, all they have to do is sign me on tomorrow so i can by nappies, food etc and then i can sign of.
With this new job i work two weeks in advance i wont recieve my first payment untill the 29th of November.
Really need help.

Have you got your dates muddled? It is the 11th Nov today.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Wait!!! Don't you have to tell them even up to the same day you started work???It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Also if you have no internet how did the employer email you about the trial? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
According to another post the OP is on day three of his work trial. As they were no longer available for work they should have signed off JSA on day one. There are exceptions to this, but they have to be agreed in advance between the JCP and the employer.
With regard to housing benefit, you need to make a claim based on your low income. However they may apply a notional income for the days you have been on a work trial.0 -
OP did you start the work trial in October? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Because you have chosen this, are you an employee?
I sat through a so called work trial, JSA paid out because the employer wasn't, I had absolutely no idea when I'd be paid if I was to become permanent! ...no bank details, no ID checking, no nothing, rumor had it it was a whole month to payday.....
Dates aside it sounds like you really need a letter from your work trial stating facts (ie UNPAID) that is your only hope.
I curse these work trials0 -
Sorry i got the dates muddled, contacted me on the fourth, went to trial with them on the 7th November.
I am not being paid for what I am working, ill get paid when they tell me whether or not I have the job, not for what i have done, but what I will do.0 -

That does not matter, if you are doing work that someone would normally be paid for you will be counted as a) not being available for work and potentially b) having a notional income. Unfortunately you should have advised the JCP beforehand, so the trial arrangement could have been formalised.0 -

What a joke.
And I am available for work. If a different employer rang me today for example one i went for an interview with on the 5th of november and offered me the job, i would accept it.
Why does it matter that they dont know about it, they havent gave me no help for over 6 months and all of a sudden they care what im doing.
All they have to do is sign me on as i am still unemployed.
They didnt mind sending me for work experience but this is a problem?
And i did let them know as soon as i could.0
