Wifi not working only via ethernet cable

Hi

I've just changed from Sky BB to Plusnet and all of a sudden my wifi has stopped working. Plusnet has no idea why it doesn't work but odds are the fault lies with my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.

I've uninstalled & re-installed the driver for my network adapters, but no luck there.

Unfortunately I've also inadvertently wiped my old system restore points (blame ccleaner).

Other devices in the house are working fine with a wifi connection.

Any assistance gratefully received.

can your laptop 'see' the WiFi network when you scan for access points ?

'Doesn't work' does not tell us very much. If other devices can connect, your router is broadcasting just fine, so not a Plusnet problem.
Can you 'see' the network (or any neighbouring ones) via your laptop? Have you inadvertantly switched off the wi-fi button on the Dell?
Have you entered the correct wi-fi password for your new router?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes the wifi switch is on & it can also see neighbouring signals.

If you can get into the wireless router settings, see if its frequency is set to 5ghz or 2.4ghz. If it's on 5ghz, try changing it to 2.4ghz, as some devices, especially older ones don't support 5ghz.

I had a similar problem when my Sky router packed up a few weeks ago and a new one was sent out. Got it set up so that everything was the same as before, including the network name and password, but neither my phone or laptop would connect.

I simply re-entered the passwords again on both - problem sorted.
  • has it ever worked since you swapped? did you get a new router and have you configured it?
  • Did Plusnet send out a new router? If so, you must have gone around other wi-fi devices and change SSID and password, have you done same with laptop? Did you at some time in the past set the latop to a fixed IP address?
