I thought this might be useful for people traveling to hot destinations laden with beaches...

Rather than paying for loungers every time you go to the beach, buy a cheap inflatable air mattress (the things people lie on when in the sea or pool, I call them a lilo) and put your towel on that instead. It keeps you off the sand and is a bit more comfy!!

I got two the other week from Poundland that I'm taking with me on my hols this year, half price too!:j

My husband and myself have been to ingoldmells with 2 children for the past 4 years ,we always sent for a brochure from the tourist information and there were always special offers in the brochure. Fantasy island is a place with lots of childrens rides and there was always buy one get one free on the tokens you need for the rides. Also if you like a few pints there is lots of happy hours for drinks
When we went on the beach we always took our own sandwhiches to save money
This year we are going to newquay for a change so any ideas on saving money(or special offers) for that area will be welcomed
    thanks jilltoon

Heres a bizarre tip that has worked a few times for my girlfriend and me.
I was in Prague, and in Budapest. Each time we went to the local tourist office looking for accommodation. GF stood outside and had a cigarette, while I went in. Each time, she was approached by people offering very cheap flats (£10 per night for a two bedroom apartment, five minutes from Wenceslas Square). I came out just as negotiations were concluding. The look on there faces, as they realised they weren't just dealing with a naive tourist was worth the overnight price.
Always look at the room first. If its crap, don't accept it.
Also Budapest. They seem to add 10% to everything. Don't pay it. Actually, that probably goes for a lot of places. If you are not told about it beforehand, refuse to pay it, and chances are they won't push the point, since the charge was dubious anyway.
"Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.
Do critisise what they say, and what they do, especially if what they say is different to what they do. They can help that"

Also Budapest. They seem to add 10% to everything.
You got off quite lightly!:rotfl: About 15-20% in my experience!
    Anywhere your rellies are
The other side of Town or Basingstoke it is then!
  • All these suggestions are fine. But can we have some more for this countryplease? I have a caravan in the North East and spend every weekend and all school hols there.
One of the best days out up north is Woodhorn Colliery near Ashington, Northumberland. £2 to park but the reat is free!!! Fill your car!!!
It's all about the mining era of this area-May sound boring but plenty of interactive stuff for kids and older adults can reminisce about "The way we used to live."- Give it a go. We're going back in the summer
Cafe there also does decent food for reasonable prices but you can take picnics if you prefer.
We are all swans. Serene on top- but paddling like fury underneath.:smileyhea

If you holiday a lot in the UK and love castles and halls, get yourself a National Trust Membership and an English Heritage membership. In actual fact, if you love Wales, get their CADW (Welsh Heritage) instead of the English one. The beauty is that they work together, so in the first year of CADW membership you get all Welsh sites for free and all English sites as well as Historic Scotland for half price, but in the second year you get them all for free - and the membership fees for the Welsh Heritage are cheaper! At least they were when I last looked.
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH
  • Last year summer I went for a 8-day break in La Alberca, Spain. The lodgings and food were free with 3 sittings - breakfast, lunch and dinner and as much red wine as you like to consume. All the holiday company asked in return was for me to speak English non-stop to the paying Spanish guests. I only needed to pay for my flights and stay in Madrid which worked out at less than £50.00. I highly recommend it, especially if you're a chatterbox!
