I was reading this article which puts the cost of laser printers between 1 - 2p per copy and colour between 3 - 6p which is as much as a third less than some inkjets. You can also get up to 4000 prints from a colour laser printer depending on what you are printing. The second post here is very interesting reading.
  • First time I've read (GSM) that colour laser printers don't print photographs. Is that correct? And why not, if true, as they print out in colour on other images.

    Valleyclose,

Not sure but think it's to do with most photo-printers needing to use 6 colours to get the best picture, and most are only 4....but I could be talking absolute rubbish?

We have 2 of those samsung colour laser printers at work (I bought them). They have been pretty reliable and the main complaint is the time until the first print, as this seems to be anything from 20-60 seconds!! We paid about £400 each but there was a £150 cash back deal on at the time, ans I think they have now been replaced by a newer model, the clp510.

Running costs, 3 colour cartridges at about £65 each that last for 5000 pages and 1 black cartridge that costs about £70 that lasts for 7000 pages. You also need to replace the opc drum (about £120) and transfer belt (about £95) every 50000 pages.

    Hope that helps.

Its a mix of toner and paper, theres nothing to stop you printing you pictures on a laser - They just wont "Look" like real photos. Inkjets use gloss paper and real ink to produce there images where as lasers use toner and "normal" paper ( im not aware fo any laser specific photo paper - but am happy to learn if someone else has ) ...

my experience is that these printers do print photos very well, just not on glossy paper. I wonder if you can get glossy paper for laser printers.

The answers is "Yes". And it does look not bad. I have Gloss coated double sided Laser paper 130gsm "Partners the stationer" brand.
But inject photo printer will print better, but much slower.
