I have an old iphone full of music (loaded from my Cds i might add) and a new laptop.
I thought it would simply be a case of plugging the phone in, creating a new user and then let it do it's synch thing.
It seems to be only interested in recognising any new CDs I load, not any of the old ones. I'm guessing it can't find the backup files from my old laptop.
Can any help? Is there an obvious solution to copy the library over? Memory stick? I'm havering now. Thanks.

You don't want to create a new user - you need to use the same user ID as is on the old iPhone.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
The new laptop won't be able to find anything on the old unless you have them connected in some way.0

You'll be able to find your music on the old laptop in an itunes folder within the music folder.
\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Might be slightly different between xp/windows 7 but it'll be thereabouts. Copy it all to a memory stick and transfer over to your new PC.
Done it a few times now0 -
Thanks for replies.
Ok, here's another one.
I have an iphone full of (cd-imported) music but have no library to copy over. Is there any way to synch the music onto the new laptop directly from the phone? Must be, one can buy pre-loaded 2nd hand ipods from eg. Ebay? I tried hooking it up and taking a backup but no joy?0 -
I cant try this as i dont have a iphone, but sharepod has a import from ipod option when used with a ipod. If you import your music from the iphone with sharepod to your new laptop you can then drag and drop the imported music into itunes. I know this works with an ipod as i have done it. Sharepod is a free download0

Same reply as earlier... It needs to be the same Apple ID.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Been using same Apple Id all along here, so not that.0

Forgive if I'm not up-to-date on this but...
It always used to be the case that you couldn't get music from your ipod/phone to your laptop, you'd need software like xilisoft or touchcopy to get it.
If someone else knows better pls enlighten us !
But I would think that's one solution
You can't get it by syncing to itunes as you say they were not from itunes. i think.Friendly greeting!0 -
Sharepod = winner. Thx Stef73.0
