benefits advice needed

Hi, im hoping someone out there will help as I havent a clue at the moment

My husband is in receipt of DLA, he gets middle care and lower mobility. His claim is up for renewal in July, so we're hoping it gets renewed as his condition has got worse.

He has bi polar depression, and has had it for the last 4 years, and last summer, he felt he had improved enough to start working, which he did through a disability advisor through the job centre, and he started working 18 hours a week. This is turn improved our working tax credits, and up to a month ago, we were getting £170ish a month, on top of his wage (only NMW) and my wages of £970 per month. We also have NHS Exemption certs throught the WTC.

However, at the beginning of April, his illness started to take hold of him once again, which forced him off work. We have just discovered that his work have let him go.

He has just applied for Incapacity Benefit, and we are waiting for that result. We have informed WTC about it, and I had a letter on Friday saying we are now entitled to £0.00. I have then had a letter from them today saying due to financial hardship, they will pay me £71 this month, which I shall have to pay back next April.

As you can imagine, this has really upset us. Few questions I have -

Will I lose my NHS Exemption cert as it was part of the WTC? (I'm tipping yes)
Can I decline this payment from WTC as I do not want to owe them any kind of money next year as I cannot guarantee our circumstances will be any different?
How long does a renewal for DLA take and how long realistically before we hear about Incapacity Benefit?

Any advice you can give would be extremely appreciated. :o

Hiya. I can only answer the how long will a DLA renewal last. Currently looking at between 8 and 12 weeks but they have measures in place so it should get looked at before it goes out of payment.

I think the Incapacity Benefit should be sorted out in a few weeks but I have read of it taking longer.
