Not sure how that would work at all. Say you have 10 people willing to pay a maximum which is the same amount a month as each other on a really popular rental - which bid do they take? Don't say the one who puts his hand up first because an auctioneer can't see everyone at once.... It could result in crazy arguments in my opinion.

I agree but I guess I couldn't envisage how eBay would work before it started and that has been bery successful.

I guess with an online auction maybe you can't bid the same as someone else, you have to go higher. I'm not sure!

I liked the idea of being reference and credit checked from the get go, but that's as far as my interest goes.

Do you get to view the properties before you bid on them? Not really sure I like the idea of bidding, seems like it might push the price up unrealistically.

Another Idea to drive up rental costs in London!
Waste of time for the rest of the country.
Will the company be checking the properties to make sure they are safe, clean, well looked after?
    Not a chance

Maybe that is an idea, a company that does independent referencing and credit checking for tenants and they can then receive certification that they can take to as many letting agents as they like and not need to be referenced again.

I like that one stop idea!

It would work in Aberdeen. The housing market is mental, prices are rising faster than many parts of London. FTB are being pushed out the market by BTL. Demand for rental properties is high and some letting agencies are encouraging would be renters to put in bids

As a landlord I'd have zero interest in this.

A system of offering rents which can only ever go up, in an era where rents are already overinflated? What could possibly go wrong?
