Paying for holiday oncredit card.

I need to pay for my holiday soon and have the savings ready, but will get better protection in case the travel company goes belly up, if I pay using my credit card? Could I get charged extra for using my credit card? I would, of course, pay off the card in full.

Possibly. It depends on who you book with.

Yes. Often a percentage. Sometimes a flat fee.

Depends who you've booked your holiday with and how much they charge and if they are abta and atol protected. Thomas cook charge 2% my credit card gives me 1% in points so if I had the money I wouldn't use my card, but if I was waiting for pay day then i'd probably use my card.
  • It does not matter whether the agent is ATOL/ ABTA protected, if paying by CC the credit card company becomes jointly liable. Hence if the agent went bust the CC company would be liable for the cost of a replacement holiday (or getting the traveller back home), even if that is more than the original payment.

You don't need to pay for all of it by card for the protection, so just pay £100 by card. Then you only have 2% on that but protection for the full amount.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

It does matter if your not paying by credit card, I think you misunderstood me, I was trying to say don't waste your money paying by credit card if you have the money to pay for the holiday and your using a reputable company. But if you have a card that pays lots of points or interest free credit etc then use it.

    Hi,
It really depends on who you have booked your holiday with. If you have booked with Thomson/Firstchoice and if they ever go bust then they would pay out the total amount of your holiday as you are atol and abta protected. This is only on package holidays though so if you have tailor made it then you are best paying on your credit card.
    I hope this helps.
