Parking Ticket

Hi

I need help, My hubby and I parked at a Cattle Market Car Park in the Back of a town in Waderbridge, Cornwall. It was poring with rain and we got out ran to nearest caf! and forgot to pay and display a ticket. When we came back an hour later the ticket was on the windscreen, my hubby ripped it off and said it was a private one and threw it away, We recently received a Formal Demand from them and hubby threw that away. GRRRRR
I now see he has got another from them this time a Debt Recovery Plus Ltd demand for the ticket, it has now gone to them wanting a £149.99 charge :-(
He then put that in the bin which I have fished out unknown to him I called them this morning and said that I do not know anything about the ticket and asked them for proof ie photograph I said I did not go to Cornwall, they have said that they will put the demand on hold as they will get photographic evidence. So much for my hubby saying they were a private company. I am not sure what to do next wait and see if photo turns up ? then pay or just pay without hubby knowing. We are just hoping to move house and going through mortgage procedure I do not want this to show up on our credit file :-(

Well done Karyn, now could you go back and delete your post from Coupon-mad's sticky reference thread (You go into Edit, choose delete and then make sure it's deleted)

On your point, you can get immediate advice by searching this forum with the search tool for "Athena" or "Debt recovery".

From memory, given where you are, they don't do court so just threats, but tell hubby to wise up on the changes in legislation since October last year and he should read the opening post in the thread you added to as that gives a synopsis about what to do now.

They ARE merely a private company and your husband is right! You are just panicking about debt collector letters which people have ignored for years.

If you look at the sticky thread you first accidentally posted on, I do link info about DRP and Zenith letters in the acronyms section about DC = debt collectors. And I show a link there to the standard letters (which is what your OH is rightly IGNORING, as he is too late to appeal).

Or as GuysDad says, simply search 'Recovery' as a keyword to see other threads about this trash chain of pathetic threatograms (which certainly worked on you!).

But for the love of GOD why are you phoning this firm and panicking about paying? Phoning them was like replying to a phishing email scam, and NOW they have your phone number to harass you on too! Debt collectors can't affect your credit file except if you had defaulted on a CREDIT AGREEMENT. Since when do you think you had a CCA agreement with Athena?! This isn't a real debt at all:

Please get real, read the link and learn to calm down like your OH. Good for him being sensible (although next time he should appeal any fake parking ticket if this was in England/Wales). DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT PAYING!

You could be proactive and helpful by complaining to the Store Manager/retailer and getting it cancelled that way. That would be good and would stop the threatograms. All covered in my sticky threads. I even have one at the top, a whole happy thread dedicated to successful complaints about PPCs.
