Apart from the issue below everything seems to be running fine.
Finally got a new battery. Also blew out several years of muck.Everything fine except on the first boot up of the day or after it has been off for a while, I now get a warning 'cpu fan fail or fan speed too slow.' With an option to press F1 to continue or to disable the warning in BIOS. I downloaded some utilities and fan speed and temperature seem fine. So far I haven't disabled the warning.
I checked in BIOS and it looks like the warning is set to kick in if the speed drops between 800 rpm :huh:0 -
I worry about getting a shock poking around a computer innards. A repair shop told me I should switch it off but keep it connected and the power supply on. Can this be right?
Touch a metal radiator first to discharge any static on your body.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Dont get fingerprints all over the new battery, handle it with a tissure0

Handling the battery will cause problems with corrosion which reduces the contact on the battery over time.
With a halogen lamp it is more obvious as the grease from your finger burns on the hot glass.
Just be careful where you hold it.0 -
if you turn on your PC and it automatically connects to the net, like many do, then just do this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3140540
