What was the point of the man who found it hard to feed his kids.

He was already in social housing and his problems had more to do with low wages than house prices.

Thanks for posting quite an interesting article. So Thames Water shuts down reservoirs because they are not fit for purpose, but doesn't replace them with reservoirs that are big enough to meet the South East's needs?

Doubt that the GMB union have much expertise in water management.

Where do suggest that Thames Water builds a reservoir in the South Of England ? I'd be interested to know.

Well, if your charity has one purpose, eg housing law, and all the people employed in that charity only have jobs because of housing problems, then yes, there is a vested interest.

Surely they have got it the wrong way around then?

If their vested interest is to keep themselves in a job, they'd want to see more people with housing problems..... not the opposite.

It could be that his problem is that he is having to pay 50% of his income on keeping a roof over his head.

We apparently need a low wage economy to compete with the global market so what needs to give?....... Lower housing costs or earnings need to increase?

We have a race to the bottom with increased housing costs and falling incomes.

One of the kids was 20, so not even the father's responsibility to feed. Just lack of budgeting skills I'd say.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Compared to heating, it is a tiny proportion.

that maybe so but it represents about 1% of UK electricity requirement

I guess one could justify wasting most things on the basis they only amount to 1% of national usage

The UK is increasingly a low wage economy. As many lack skills of value.

Why not maintain income levels while letting housing costs become cheaper....... There's an idea.

we are currently coming out (very slowly) from the longest recession in recent history

in that context, it's not surprising that wages aren't racing ahead but maybe a bit premature to say we are increasingly becoming a low wage economy

Agree totally but its not palatable to the Tory voters to see their perceived wealth to fall. The total lack of common sense on this topic by the politicians is staggering.
