Warranty on replacement 2nd hand goods

I bought a second hand Xbox 360 from GAME in September 2012. In July it stopped working properly (wouldnt read games and kept saying open tray). I took it back to GAME and they replaced it with the receipt showing they'd given me my money back and buying another. Now that Xbox is not working properly (exactly the same problem).
I was wondering if my 12 guarantee is now over as i bought the origional Xbow 14 months ago, or whether a new guarantee was started in September.
Hope someone can help as im a bit confused.

That depends entirely on the guarantee terms.
Because a guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights, the guarantee provider can include restrictive terms or additional benefits.
Usually a guarantee runs from the date of the original purchase, so would've expired two months ago in your case.
However, as you tell us that your receipt shows a purchase in July this year, that's probably when the guarantee starts.
But you meed to speak to Game to confirm this.
Even without the guarantee you should be able to expect a purchase to last a reasonable time, so have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights guide if their guarantee doesn't help you.0 -
It sounds like they simply refunded you the old one, and you then used the money to buy another. So they will be classed as separate purchases.
the warranty/guarantee generally runs from the date of original purchase. But as its a separate purchase, it'll run from the time you got the 2nd0 -
Thats the best way of returning a faulty item. You purchased a new one so another 12 month warranty if thats what they offer.
My mums had some brand new hair curlers every year for the past 4 or 5 years. Seems they have a weak point and they keep replacing them.
Sometimes they last weeks or a few months but never longer than a year.
