faulty goods bought on credit card - but didnt have card

bought a pair of shoes from sports direct that were a faulty. No problem they agreed to reimburse me. Problem was when i took them back to the shop i only had my credit acrd and not the credit card i bought them with

i had the receipt.

the manager said the money could only be paid back on the card i used to make the purchase

Is there any reason for this stipulation? She said having the credit card would prove i was the purchaser - but i had the shoes - and i had the receipt and a debit card with my name on it.

ie the name of the person customer services had told to ask to speak to the manager about the faulty shoes

thanks

This is right - the credit card company paid for the goods, not you, so they must refund the credit card company, not you.

Not the same for a debit card where the money is coming direct from you via the bank.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

A lot of shops do this, they refund by the exact method paid. Can't you just take the old card in to get you refund?

If you no longer have it just take the statement which will have your name on too and they may then agree to refund to a different card.

By not having the card you can't prove that you were the original purchaser so they don't have to do anything for you.

In addition to the answers already given, another reason might be that the store only get the card charge refunded if the refund is to the same card.

They might agree to refund onto a giftcard if you can't provide the credit card. I think Next do this amongst others (although that might be when you don't have the receipt, can't remember :D)

Although I'd have thought offering the replacement card would also work assuming you've called your CC company to tell them you've lost it?
