Dog insurance and medical history

I bought a 7 month old boxer dog a few months ago, got himtaken to the vet immediately for checks and he is just fine. A few days ago Idecided that I would get him pet insurance as a neighbour suggested it becauseall her dogs are insured.
When I contact insurance people though, they say I need totell them his full medical history. I don't know this though because I didn't havehim for the first 7 months, I know he is healthy though because my vet said so.
I cant contact the previous owners because I don't havetheir details anymore.
He is micro chipped which are my details as the previousowner transferred them over to me.
Is there any way I can find out his previous history?
Would the Microchip people have the details of the previousowner?
Why are the insurance people insisting I give them this whenI got him checked anyway and he is fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly received.

All you need to tell them is that to the best of your knowledge there are no pre-existing conditions or illnesses, and had had none in the time you have had him. You had him on x date and have no information prior to this, and no means of getting it.
Companies insure rescue dogs with no previous history all the time - I'm in the process of insuring a 3 year old dog picked up as a stray with no background info at all. If they quibble about it, I'd be questioning whether I want to be insured with them anyway. Doesn't bode well for future claims. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I've never heard of this. Neither of my dogs were bought as puppies, and none of their insurers have asked for a full vet history. I've done several claims for one of them, and the insurers have just requested the history from my vet, but obviously that only dates back to when I got them (like you, I popped them to the vet for a checkup to confirm all was OK)
I would phone the insurers and ask what you're supposed to do when you don't have any history on the dog. There are so many rescue dogs with no history, they must have a procedure for these sorts of situations.0 -
The microchip people will have his previous owners details, but whether that is his previous owners or the rescue you got him from is a bit of a moot point. My previous dog, who we got at the age of 8, we just told the insurance company that she was a rescue dog, and we had no way of knowing her previous history, and they accepted this. Our current dog, we rehomed direct fro his previous owner, and have his previous vets details from his vaccination records.
Which insurance company are you with out of interest?Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

As has been said, many rescued dogs are insured.
I don't think the microchip people would give you any information , because of data protection.0 -
When I got Maisie as she needed her jabs done (hadn't been done since she was a pup), my vet did a health check and wrote on the card that she was healthy with no visible signs of illness
Obviously this won't preclude there being anything wrong with her but it will hopefully provide enough should I need to make a claim for her that, to the best of my knowledge, she was fit and healthy when I got her
Our insurance company seem happy with that - but I did note their is a clause in their cover that says any conditions that would reasonably have been in existence before the policy started / exclusion period was up will not be coveredGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
