There is no problem at all telling them the truth - that you intend to use it for savings. I opened 2 online selecting that option without issue. When I opened the 3rd over the phone I told them it was for savings and the 3% interest. They said that was fine.0 -
Could be as simple as the fact that you already have 3 other bank current accounts. So why would you need another.0

I'll send off the appeal and see what happens I suppose.
Worst case they still say no - then in 3 months or so I'll try again (assuming rates haven't changed drastically by then!)
Thanks for all your advice!Better to keep silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Just to update any future reader who might find this post useful.
After exchanging a few letters with someone at Bank of Scotland, they told me I was 'rejected' online as I don't live in Scotland, therefore the automated system can't handle me having a local branch 400 miles. But - on calling them up to explain that I don't need a local branch, I just want 3% interest on a £5000 deposit (assuming I meet the monthly criteria) they were happy to process the application and even removed the second credit search from my file.
So I guess two lessons learnt - sometimes it pays to talk to a human, and appealing is never a bad thing.Better to keep silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
