Please help. So confused re: credit file vs debt collectors

I would be very grateful for some help. Around a year ago I was pursued by a chain of three debt collection agencies for a debt I know I paid off. Everytime I sent a prove it letter they said they couldnt and sold it on to another agency. I cannot prove it myself because I have not been a customer of Barclays for so many years I cannot get through their security and they wont provide me with any information! I have tried several times with different addresses and emails ive had previously but its not the same as whatever they hold! Anyway, that paticular debt has gone quiet and now I have had a letter from Robinson Way about an old egg card..they say I owe £734. Now I have been through all my paperwork and on an envelope I have written "card and loan cleared" and a date in 2010. There is nothing showing on my credit report...everything says satisfied...I am so confused...what do I do? I worked so hard to clear my debts, I feel like they are never going to leave me alone : (

Send another prove it letter and see what the response is.0

I am assuming that you did in fact own an Egg card? Does it show on your credit check? It should if it was within the last 6 years. If it does it will give you a start date and an address which you were at at the time, this should give you enough to ring up Yorkshire Building Society (who hold Egg's records) and explain your problem with them. I'm sure they can then provide you with some proof of settlement which you can then send to the debt collector?0

Does the letter give a reference number for the credit card? and does it tie in to your egg credit card account? i.e. is it definitely your debt they are trying to chase (not someone with the same name).
Which credit report have you checked?
Does the loan and credit card account show on your credit file, in the closed accounts section?
If not then have you checked your credit files with the other credit reference agencies?
Presumably your don't have anything such as a card statement showing that the balance was nil? or a letter to confirm the account is closed or anything?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
