The main point of my complaint (just looking for SD Complaints Department Address at the moment!) is that my bank statement was ok for Proof of Purchase while I was asking for an exchange, but it suddenly became 'not a proof of purchase' when I was asking for a refund...

Whilst that might be a valid annoyance you might find it becomes irrelevant because ultimatley real argument will be 'if person a wants a refund do they need a receipt or is a bank statement enough'.

you can complain from a customer service poitn of view that they changed their story but that is purely a customer service issue and not a legal one - and it may or may not get you a refund.

Without the receipt it's your word that the sum displayed on your bank statement was the total paid for the item, however there's a problem with that. Not everyone is 100% honest, a person of lesser honesty could say that the £15 represents the total cost of the backpack, however on that day the backpack may have cost £5 and further goods cost £10. Without a receipt the retailer won't know that.

They then said they would check their system, which in all likelihood does take an amount of time as they would need to find the records for that day & the time. Ultimately that could conceivably take an hour or two depending on how many transactions there was on that particular day. This was not acceptable to you - thus we have an impasse.

You don't need to be loud or obnoxious, if you have been presented with a reasonable solution to a problem & have rejected it for whatever reason, there's not much more a manager can do for you. I'm not saying they were right, but they offered a solution, you weren't able to accept it, hence the manager's clearly had enough & punted you. I'm in no way excusing that, but this is a company to whom "customer service" is a foreign concept - honestly, I'd suggest the mods sticky a "Sports Direct: Useless Customer Service" thread they appear so regularly!

As for trying to find a SD complaints department, there probably isn't one, Mike Ashley has your money, he has no further use for you and doesn't care about anything else. Harsh reality I'm afraid, but chalk this one up to experience & don't shop there again, it's certainly not a place worthy of anyone's time or effort.

  • Nope - bag appears to be out of stock everywhere. Looked online and its' got a December back order date.

No bag for a few days doesn't cause massive problems but it is a pain in the backside. Bigger pain is the £15 petrol driving to Cardiff costs, the £2.70 parking fee plus the 2 hours of my life it'll take.

Unreasonable? You give in on the small arguments and you end up with companies believing they are bigger and better than both the law and the customer and then we all suffer.

The manager was ready to give me the refund until her computerised till said 'No'. She then started making things up on the spot to try and get rid off me - that's my main complaint.

To be fair to them, they weren't given a receipt. An alternative proof of purchase such as a bank statement might be entirely acceptable but IMO it's reasonable for them to want to go and check that against their records. For an exchange they might not be too concerned but they might want to refund to the original card used, which would likely require a little investigation.
