Cant get older cat insurance

Hi everyone I need some advice / help
I have a 13yr old cat (british shorthair) and recently has been throwing up at random times, whether its before food or after. I have taken him to the vets, who has given him some laxitives incase it's hairballs getting stuck in his stomach (he licks a lot).
Anyway he has finished the treatment and he is still being sick. The vets have said they will now have to do x-rays, put him under a GA and poss put a camera down his stomach. I just don't know how to afford this. Our vets DONT do a payment plan (I have asked) and the procedures could cost over £1000 plus. Because this is a previous illness, I cannot get insurance for him. We were able to cover his previous vets bills as they were under £100 but this is something we cant no longer cover.
I cant see him suffer, it is breaking my heart but I just don't know how to cover his treatment. We receive no benefits but my OH only gets NMW and I just manage to cover our outgoings ....
Can anyone help?

Sorry
Is it possible for you to get to London, as there's Celia Hammond

or maybe the RSPCA can help

can I suggest that you try him with a food which is supposed to help with 'hairballs'? if he is showing no other symptoms then it wont hurt to leave vets alone for a while and try a 'dietary' solution.0

Also try a Furminator to get rid of as much excess hair as possible. They are expensive but worth it IMO.0

Could you move to a vets that offers a payment plan?
Could you suggest Braemar finance to your vets - low cost finance for medical tx, covers vet bills. We had it in my last practice - the vet gets paid and you take a low cost loan with the company.
You will not qualify for charity vets with current income. Please don't rush to alter food, as this can cause vomiting.Formerly- Greenmoneysaver

OP - really sorry to hear about your cat.
Have you thought about fundraising?
You can put a fundriser on pages like those:
http://www.youcaring.com/
http://www.gofundme.com/
There is a lot of pages like that, they are not country specific really - you need to write your story and what you need to raise money for and hope people will help.
You can always put a link to your fundraiser on FB and ask your friends to share it and spread the world that you need help.
Some fundraisers only show as public when you collect say £100.00 among friends and family first (via the site), always read their T&C of course, some take percentage (via PayPal) etc etc.
But perhaps worth a shot?
http://www.gofundme.com/Animals-Pets/
even has a pets & animals section
All the best xx0
