How Large Are Feet at 9 Months?

Options
I've bought the most fabulous pair of hand knitted baby booties with a soft leather sole for my friend's first granddaughter - but I'm not sure they're going to fit....

I want them to be a surprise so can't ask my friend - so could some kind person with a 9/10 month old please advise on the fit? The leather sole is 11cm long, but there is very little room lost so I guess the inside is going to be 10 - 10.5 cm long. I doubt she'll be walking far in them, so the fit isn't crucial :D but I'd hate them to be too small.

I've completely forgotten what size my own children's' feet were at that age (such a rubbish mother :rotfl:).

Thanks in advance.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

The shoes our son wears when out in the pushchair are a size 3, he is 11 months old, looking on the internet this would make his shoe size (as in room inside the shoe) would be 10 cm, so they should fit just fine.
  • Some googling and some maths have led me to conclude that you should be fine :rotfl:

A size 12 is 12" long. Working backwards from that in barleycorns (1/3 inch) you get a size 9 at 11", size 6 at 10" etc.

M&S reckon their 9-12 month shoes are size 0-2 and a half. My maths reckon this equates to a shoe between 3" and 3.75", so your 10ish cm bootees should be perfect!
As you say the child probably won't be walking far in her new shoes...

I've just measured a pair of pram shoes (AKA keep yer blooming socks on when we're out child shoes) that I think are 9-12 months (my 8 month old is wearing 'em but she has HUUUUGE feet) and they're about 11 1/2 cm on the sole part (not including the leather which goes up the edges if you get what I mean?).

I'd measure my 8 month old but her feet are the same size as her 19 month old sister (one's got huge feet, the other tiny) who takes a 3 1/2 shoe size still.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • Not sure anybody can give you an answer, it's a bit like saying how bit are a 29 year old mans feet!

My daughter is 22 months, is not yet walking and wears pram shoes in a size 0-3 months, she is tiny all over. We are all different!

I agree with the above. There is so much variation.

My two grand daughters, born 23 hours apart, both have very different feet and one little girl's brother is wearing age 6 months clothes but is 15 months old. In contrast, a neighbour's daughter could not use first size clothes for her son, as he was so large.

My son was in size five and a half shoes when he walked at ten months!

    He's unusually large though.

I remember searching for leather soled shoes for him, and couldn't find any that would fit his chubby feet. The majority of parents, however, seemed to be able to get their children's feet into Daisy Roots shoes, or shoo shoos.

ETA: As mum to a giant I was used to being given 'average' sized clothes, socks, shoes, etc. for him and I still appreciated the thought - so if this child has huge feet I'm sure the recipient will still appreciate the thought :)

  • Thanks everyone - not seen said baby as they live overseas, so no idea if she's a whopper or not. Strangely they don't seen to make a big thing of birth weights in Finland, so no help there either.

If they don't fit I'm sure they can be handed down (probably first of many babies) or passed on. TBH they are so cute I was tempted to keep them as Christmas tree decorations :rotfl:
