Unused Norton Antivirus Subscription - Refund possible?

Here's the situation.

Someone I know, originally purchased a 12-Month Norton Antivirus CD online, several years ago. After purchasing, it wasn't actually ever used (CD buried in a draw, unopened, Product Key not used/activated). After two, 12-month auto renewals later (...Yes, that's three years of paying for an unused product), the time has come (for me) to stop the Auto-payment, before it turns into 4-years, next year....

My question is, seeing as the product was never used. Is there any possible way to get a refund for all these years of it being unused? Could I not send them the product key information to show it hasnt been used or something?

Spending in excess of £80 is shocking, and I wanted to try anything to help, before I demonstrate to the person how to turn OFF auto-renewal. :wall:

How are you going to prove that it hasn't been used? You don't actually need the key to download the software/updates so no feedback to Norton to confirm the non-use

  • Apart from the CD seal with the product key sticker still intact, I don't know, please dont throw more questions at me while Im trying to find answers.

I just assumed the keys they send in emails would have to be registered, meaning that somewhere it must go through a checking system.

It isn't really norton's problem is it?! You can ask for a refund but don't really see any grounds for them saying yes.
  • i think your best bet is to phone them up and ask and explain, try to get hold of someone who will listen.

im not sure if there is grounds about the auto renewal thing (so you could get 2 out of the 3 years) - as it is extending a product you have not actually redeemed.... but i really have no idea.

worst case you might be able to get them to let you use the disc (year 1) this year? or the 2 auto renewal years?

I can confirm that your licence will be listed somewhere and it will be traceable r.e. if you ever activated it.

These are just thoughts and im not really sure on the specifics of your situation i.e. what you purchased / signed up to etc. having said that i have no ideas or experience with this. There may be a clause somewhere about it having to have been activated for it to be valid conversely there may be one that says its down to you....

all i can suggest is as i said at the beginning call them.

  • May be a silly question, if it has never been used, how did they get the payment details to auto renew?
