Ebay, sold car, buyer cant collect for week. Deposit???

Listed our car on ebay on Sat as a classified ad with best offer.
Someone sent us a best offer the same day, that we were prepared to accept, as was only £100 under the final asking price, so this closed the listing.
They then messaged for my number, then rang me, asked a few questions about the car, and said they live about an hours drive away, and they cant come for it until next Sat.
As its a whole week, would you ask for something from them to hold it, or just take their word they are def gonna come??
Its a completed ebay transaction granted, but if they do back out all I can do is leave them a neg fb basically, and they only got a score of 22 and no activity for past 6months anyway, so dont think they will really care about that??

I didn't think car ebay classified ads had the facility to leave any buyer OR seller feedback, as it is a different format, BUT in anycase a seller is never permitted to leave negative for their buyer. Driving for an hour or so sounds ok the people could be genuine enough but without them coming to view it before buying or inspect or test it, and without sending any deposit it hasnt really been "sold" until they drive it away and cash in in your hand.
They may need a lift, or to get public transport, sort out insurance, maybe they may need to withdraw the money from the bank ,etc and it could technically take a few days....BUT if they havent bank transferred even £50 your way to keep it for them and you had a lot of interest, then it is up to you if you want to hang about for them they could be true to their word and come next week if they have your info but if they appear to be timewasters you could always re-advertise .Why not politely phone them ask for a deposit into your bank because "someone else" has offered you money and can collect it tomorrow "can't beat a bit of car salesman pitch!" Or BS!:rotfl: LOLNB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0 -
You cannot leave buyers a negative. So if they dont buy it all you can do is a non paying bidder. Unless it was a classified then I dont think you will be able to do that either?
Keep advertising it until its actually paid for. Cash in your hand not some dodgy scheme where they pay buy some dodgy means that doesnt protect you.

I've bought and sold cars through Ebay, and I'd say that your buyer actually sounds fair.
I know this thread is a few days on now, but when I bought one car I had to drive about 1.5 hours to go and get it. I didn't go straight away, but I did phone to arrange a convenient time a few days later. The seller didn't ask me for a deposit or anything, and like someone's said, I had to sort out proper insurance so I could drive it home, and arrange the actual money from my bank.
I guess like others have said, if your buyer hasn't got in touch over the past few days then maybe be a little wary and prod them gently for a small deposit, but if it's a long(ish) way for them to come, and they want to drive it back in the daylight, then fair enough. They might have a perfectly reasonable excuse, like they work odd hours during the week so can't get over before then, or they don't like driving in the dark!
I guess its your call, but from what you've said I wouldn't be hugely over-worried as yet, especially if you do give them a call for a deposit and they transfer in some amount to your bank.0 -
Personally the last 2 cars I've sold went via pistonheads. So much better than ebay.0
