My daughter has just cancelled her contents insurance against my advice as she simply needs to pull in her horns to pay household bills and food expenses she's a single mum. I was just wondering if I could take out a basic policy for her council owned property myself, is this allowed? thanks (she won't accept my offer of me giving her the money)

It needs to be her. She owns the contents.0

Insuring property you don't own isn't straightforward.
But you could take out an online policy pretending you were her applying.
Obviously she would know! (When the policy documents turn up)0 -
Mum can pay for the policy but the daughter has to apply entering her own details and answers to the underwriting questions.
I agree that having no cover is stupid.
I wonder if she thinks that because it is council property that they will replace everything in the event of a fire or flood or a burglary?0 -
Set it up with her named as a joint policyholder maybe?0

No of course she doesn't think the council will replace her stuff , she is just desperate to save herself money on bills.. she doesn't think she has much worth stealing if the truth be known .
I will try and convince her to let me pay for it just in the short term..
thanks everyone.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I don't think under dpa's you can do this without her knowledge or consent - ie your daughter would be the policy holder and you clearly do not have her consent to take out a policy
You can probably take out out policy online and pay for it but it would be better to get your daughter to agree, Maybe an early xmas present?0 -
If you don't have anything you'd mind too much losing then it's a waste of money insuring it. If you have furnished your house with junk furniture and stuff pulled out of skips then
a) no one will want to steal it
b) if they do, you can get some more. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
