It's the new type which is basically a Fiat Doblo. 1.3 diesel engine.

Was driving and a red warning light started flashing on the dash. It's an oil can symbol. So I stopped and checked the handbook and it says to get the oil changed. It doesnt say not to drive the vehicle. I have now checked the oil level it is far too high, seems to go right up over the readable area on the dipstick.

Anyone know how this could have happened?

    Leaking injector?

Edit to add, as I've had this fault before (on a different car) I had a wee google.

Here's a link to a fiat forum, someone with the same problem and a couple of opinions.

  • Change the oil and add the correct amount and keep checking the level see if it rises, It may have to be checked when hot my vectra does to find the correct level.

I'm not an expert on diesels but I'm sure I read somewhere that the engine oil can be contaminated by diesel during DPF regen if so this could have caused the level to rise... or I could be talking !!!! ;)

Could be that. Anyone know if it's still safe to drive as I really need to drive from Edinburgh to Manchester this afternoon.

To be honest I'd nip down to the local motor factor & change the oil before you go, only takes 10 mins.

I wouldn't recommend driving a diesel with above the max level of oil in it. It causes high oil pressure and if the turbo seals blow you might end up with a runaway engine.
