You always give the argument of smart meters are needed to stop people growing weed.

If that really was such a problem, a better way would be to just use thermal imaging cameras, then attach a device to measure suspect houses.

I'm happy that the UK government allows people the opt out and thus limits control being taken away from people and forcing people to have radiation emitting devices on their property running 24/7.

Where does the "radiating devices" twaddle come from?.

A smart meter in the house, even if it's located in the living room or under your bed will affect you far less than a mobile phone which is put up against your head when you are using it and is radiating all the time it's in your pocket purse or handbag.

What about your Wi-Fi router and your laptop with it's wifi switched on, probably on your lap as well - count in your tablet either using Wi-Fi or 3g. Then you can add all the other sources that are around you like everyone else's mobile phones, computers, Wi-Fi routers and Bluetooth stuff. Not to mention all the other electromagnetic radiation from TV & radio transmitters and mobile base stations - the last thing I'd be concerned about is radiation from a smart meter.

As an argument against smart meters it has no credibility whatsoever

Perhaps you might be convinced from a recent TV Prog about cell phone dangers.

The Which? also has decided to campaign against the roll out.

Don't think I will - I don't hold a smart meter by the side of my head or carry it around in my pocket nor do any of my kids or grandkids.

I also don't feel the need to have a mobile phone attached to my ear all day everyday like some people. I grant that it could have some slight effect although it would take a lot more evidence to convince me. Reasonable use of a mobile phone like reasonable intake of other substances might have some effect here as well, anything done to excess will have a detrimental effect whether it be phoning or drinking alcohol.

I might subscribe to the enormous cost as being a factor against them but that would be the only valid reason for not implementing them. Not some of the other spurious and trivial reasons that some people are quoting.

Someone I know has just had one installed. She said it took 3 hours to be installed and she was then told by the installer that if it developed any faults she would be liable for the costs.

Is that right? Anyone else heard this?

No, its not true. Its exactly the same as a normal meter in that respect, if it develops a fault its fixed free. . We have had a few sim card failures.
That was a very slow meter installer at your friends, mine took only 25 mins and that was with me slowing him down chatting

Thanks for sacsquacco for your reply. I thought it sounded odd but I don't know anyone else with a smart meter to compare with. Makes me feel a little better for when I get the call to say they want to install on in my house
