Of course they can. The point everyone is making and you seem to be ignoring is that no one can FORCE them to.

So by law he has to refund the price of postage but ebay cant enforce it. Thats a contradiction surely?

It would only be a contradiction if the poster said its the law but the COURTS can't enforce.

Ebay are not the law - so no contradiction.

Well i still cant believe anyone would risk bad feedback and star rating because of postage, especially as it wasnt my fault but i will give him a chance to reply.
  • They are maybe a plumbers suppliers and if you check their feedback, and its all good, allow them the benefit of the doubt, they possibly made one genuine small mistake, you got the wrong order and I doubt it would cost more than about £4 to return it back them, via second class signed for service or option B, sell it on ebay today, using the free listing weekend and go buy the other piece you need from B&Q or a local plumbers merchant?

There is also the issue you raised with them using a rubbish courier who ended up dumping the thing without any signature in the domestic waste! At least Royal mail guys won't risk their job security by taking a short cut like that.

To be honest ebay sellers are reliant on ebay buyers giving them good feedbacks and so, a few negatives for mistaken orders will soon take effect, if they are having some problems, so they need to pull their socks up a bit and help people, when they (sellers) make a silly mistake as someone out there must have your toilet pipe , he may be "feeling flush" now lol but don't take it personally , it seems just a little error that can be sorted simply.
NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself"

You are right. It seemed the error was genuine which i never doubted. I did have to wait more than i thought for it to be sent so i was already a bit miffed at that. He said he will pay the extra postage to fair enough. I just need to know if it will be cheeper with Myhearmes.
