Vista Repair

My pc is so slow I am on the verge of buying a new pc. I have very little knowledge about the workings of the pc. Was looking through ebay and came accross this item. Is it worth trying this as really can't afford a new pc and don't use it for much other than buying holidays, insurance etc and ebay .
Didn't make a recovery disc when I bought the pc.

Thanks for your help

Brand name and model number of PC? How much RAM is installed?
  • Usually you should not need a recovery disk, as any PC built since about 2005/(XP) should have a recovery partition, which is basically a copy of the recovery disk on your hard drive.

Usually you need to press F9 or F11 on boot up to go into it. Best look at your PC manufacturer's website for help on this subject.

You also may be better running a tool like cleanup tool like Ccleaner before attempting anything drastic.

So the slowness is only experienced when using the web browser?

Which web browser are you using?

If it's slow offline, then a clean install or a Factory Restore will make it run like new. Then upgrade to W7 for a ecent OS. If it's just slow online, then the issue is your broadband connection and/or browser, not your PC.
I've seen a few early Vista installs which had only 1GB of RAM , if so you need to upgrade to a minimum of 2GB RAM.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It's a Dell Inspiron 530. I only really use it online so not sure what it is like on other programmes. It freezes on a fairly regular basis. Silverlight keeps crashing. Think I may have a virus. The virus checker is AVG. I have cleaned out with CCleaner but it hasn't really improved the performance. I am using Firefox as my brouser.

I am keen to learn but don't understand a lot of the things discussed on the forum. Thanks

You can try a clean up as suggested by closed or run a Factory Restore to take the machine software back to the state it was when purchased. If you choose a Factory Restore, you'll need to save your important data elsewhere, as it will delete all pictures and documents etc.

Your machine has a Service Tag. Let me know what it is. Look here for more info
