Currys Repair Woes - Time for a Refund?

So my Freeview recorder, a decent Panasonic one that cost me £260, developed a fault about 6 weeks ago where the screen would flash white and it lost sound for a moment every few seconds.

As it was 11 months old I knew I had a manufacturers warranty so I found the box, packed it up and took it back to Currys with a bank statement as proof of purchase.

I explained the fault to the shop assistant and got a repair receipt and was told to expect a phone call once it was repaired and ready to pick up.

I got a call yesterday to say it was repaired so today I picked it up, got it home, set it up and it's got the exact same fault.

I plan to return to Currys for a good Sunday morning rant, should they be offering me a new replacement or a refund at this point?

One extra thing of note is that I paid full whack for it last year but on closer inspection of the box when I took it back I noticed there's a "pre-owned" sticker on the box that I didn't notice when buying it, should I be using this for a bit of leverage in getting what I want out of them?

whats the price of the reconditioned one compared to brand new one, if you paid full retail price and not told of its status I.E re reconditioned at point of sale or there was no sticker or label to identify it as such then it was mis represented.

also you must also note that some manufacturers will put a pre-owned reconditioned sticker on it after a repair has been conducted on it but that should come with a date at which it was repaired.

it may also be worthy to try a different box on the TV to make sure your TV is not the culprit to the fault, like a faulty scart or HDMI input socket or faulty HDMI or scart cable.

My local curry's is so disorganized, that recon items are mixed up with retail box items, I almost got caught out with the screen I got for my PC, retail for my screen was £210.00 and picked the box up got to the counter and whe the cashier turned it around for the label to face me I noticed it said limited manufacturer warranty reconditioned unit, so I looked at the price that came up on the till and it was full retail price, so I told her at that point I will not be charged full retail price of recon'd unit and pointed out the label, she went off and got store manager who came down and tried to say it was in the wrong box at first it happens sometimes, but asked him to guarantee that its brand new unit and put it writing and sign it to wich he said no, so I said either reduce the price to something thats appropriate for a recon price of the unit or i'm walking out my wife got on her phone and checked prices of it recon'd while he went to get his sheet of recon units that they have instore to check the bar code to see if its a recon they had baught, the average price for the unit was £109.99, he came with a £189.99 price and said it was on the list and had been entered into the system wrong and placed in the wrong section of the store, I told him that the average price even on PCworld website recon section was £109.99 I not buying it when he reducted it to £100 :).

The fact it has a pre-ownded or opened sticker on the box means it can't be mis-sold, unless of course the cashier said brand new or never opened. But after 11 months you have a hard time remembering or arguing it. The Freeview.

You're missing information in your post, how long was the item away for repair (measured by when you left it in store, to when it was delivered back, not when you picked it up).

If it's less than 28 days, hand it back in for repair, if more than 28 days then you should be able to get a exchange, however they may want to book the item in to test first to make sure it's faulty and not you pulling their leg, so don't expect a replacement on the spot.

As far as the Pre-Owned label leverage thing, forget about it.

Just curious but does it say 'pre owned' on you invoice.
It may well have done, I have just noticed that you took your statement in as proof of purchase.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
