Philips dvdr70 disc error

I know this is a long shot but I have hardly used this machine it will tape on dvd+r ok but will not except dvd+rw just says disc error, can anyone help it was not a cheap machine. We have the same model in the main room which gets used a lot with no problem.
Just tried using a disc that had been recorded on in the main room and it now works on the other recorder. (Gadgets are a mystery and have a life of there own.)
