Can anybody please advise me on how to remove the smell of head grease from my suite? Unfortunately, OH and teenage son have both presented me with this problem. Seat covers can be removed and machine washed but the head covers are fixed.
I have tried commercial products with little or no effect - and was wondering if any of you have a tried and tested solution for me. Many thanks.

Hi there
What colour and fabric is your sofa? only i had a similar problem once and out of desperation i tried rubbing a little neat shampoo in..my theory being if it gets rid of grease in your hair ....:D ..it worked for me..i just massage a little in and then used a damp sponge to blot it up...but i would hate for you to do it and ruin your sofa... i just knew that mine was going to have to go if i couldnt get the marks off anyway so i had nothing to lose.....
Hope it helps...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Wow - what a fantastic idea - so sensible!!
I'm positive the fabric will stand it - it's a velour type in a relatively pale green so it wont take any colour away. Many thanks.0 -
Hi there again..
if its a velour type fabric you may also get away with using a nailbrush or old toothbrush very gently to work the shampoo in....i have my fingers crossed for you...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Have you considered Antimacassar covers to keep the odours off your suite?
They're rather old fashioned now, but you do still see them around.
Do a wikipedia search on Antimacassar to find out more.
Good luck.We are QPR, say we are QPR!0 -
hi
sorry didn't know what else to call this post!!
i have bought a second hand tan leather suite and am picking it up tonight. the only problem is that it is marked where people have put their heads so am guessin that it must be the grease from their hair
i have looked at older threads but can't see anything to help with this problem.
it's my son's birthday tuesday and my 2 sister in laws are terrible snobs and look down their noses at us normally without giving them another excuse to talk behind our backs
please any help would be gratefully appreciated

Go to a charity shop and get a white lace "antimacassar" to throw over the suite.
They seem old fashioned but were use to counter and protect furniture from macassar - the hair treatment men used to use that stained the furniture."This site is addictive!"

I'm hoping you can help me, I rent out a property which has just been vacated by a male who has obviously reclined on a settee putting his greasy hair on the arm of the settee. This has resulted in (over 12 months) a gross, dark, greasy patch which obviously needs removing. Obviously this isn't a cushion case so I cannot remove it and put it in the washing machine and, or my next tennants, I need to make sure that the settee is in tiptop condition. Can anybody please advise me as to how I can remove a) the grease/greasy smell and b) what appears to be a dirty pallor to the colour?
Many Thanks0 -
if it were my sofa i`d have a go at it with some hot and really soapy water with a scrubbing brush and then blot it dry with a towel and repeat untill you feel its acceptable.
maybe you could withold the old tenant`s deposit and get a sofa cleaning firm in to give it a once over, that is what the deposit is for to cover any damages upon leaving your property.
incidently i dated a black guy for a few years and you could tell where he had been laying in the bed as the pillowcases went a darkish colour, he explained to me that this was due to him losing skin cells in the night which everyone does whether black or white its just that we can physically see the black shed skin after a while but white shed skin looks invisible to us (sounds gross hey) anyway what im trying to say tactfully is that your sofa is probably fully minged up to the max but you just cant see it all :rotfl: helpful huh?!!:D

Hi all
Well I guess the title says it all!
I need to remove the smell of oily head smell from my 3 piece suite. My lovely hubby is now balding and deposits oil/grease from his head on the furniture. Son also leaves 'gel' deposits in the same place.
Please suggest ways to get rid of all this.
Many thanks.0 -
can you wash it with biological washing powder (hand wash) to get rid of the grease and then when it's dry spray with febreeze.
Then to stop it happening, either get a throw to put over your sofa, or make a small cushion cover sized piece of material to lay over the top.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0
