Pet vaccinations

For all you pet owners out there, Vets4pets are running a special offer until the 24th November (from memory) that you can have your cats or dogs booster vaccinations done for £15 or a full vaccination for £30.
I unfortunately let my dogs vaccinations slip and they need to be restarted again, my usual vet quoted £42.50 for the first vaccination and £18 for the second which would have been £60.50 per dog. I am having them vaccinated on Wednesday at Vets4pets for £60 for both dogs.
Most of the Vets4pets surgeries seem to be in Pets at Home stores and there are quite a few across the country.
Hopefully this will help anyone out who needs pet vaccines doing.

My Vets4Pets practice offer a one off fee of £99 that will cover annual boosters for the life of your dog. We took it out 3 years ago, our dog is currently 8 yrs old.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0

Whilst many vets state that a lapsed vaccination requires the whole set to be given again, a single vaccination should suffice.
Puppies are given the double set, because the initial vaccine may be made 'void' by lingering antibodies from their mother. However, the age at which these antibodies disappear can vary slightly. Therefore, a vaccination is given at about 8-10 weeks to ensure pup is protected, and then repeated at 12-14 weeks incase the first vaccine was nullified.
Adult dogs don't have this issue, and therefore the two jabs aren't needed. If a vet says they do, I would ask them to explain why!

Yes, deals like this still make it cheap to have the two vaccinations done..but there are potential risks of overvaccination. For example, vet Dr Jean Dodds in the US believes there's a link between vaccinations and thyroid disease.
For year round good prices, vaccination clinics can be a good alternative. There's no law to prevent you registering at more than one vet practice, so you're free to use a vaccination clinic for boosters whilst remaining at your existing vets. I personally use Easipetcare, there are some others in various parts of the country too I believe. We pop along, dogs get their boosters, and I take the vaccination card to my regular vet who takes a copy for their records.0 -
krlyr, An Easipetcare has just opened near me but their annual booster is £20, is that how much you pay? It's only £18 at my vets.0

It's often on offer, I paid £10 for their boosters earlier this year.
Boosters at my regular vet would be £90 per dog! Every other normal vet within about a 10 mile radius charge the same, as I did ring around. Downside of living in Surrey is expensive prices!0 -

Funnily enough, my DD who recently did work experience at a local vets said they were running a similar scheme so I will call them on Monday and see what conditions apply, if any.0 -
Our local Vets4Pets also offers the Vaccinations for Life scheme, £99 covers the basic vaccinations for a cat or a dog for every year of its life.
(I don't think they send someone round your house with a large hammer after a couple of years!!)
As the initial vaccinations were around £40 for our number 1 cat, this is a very good idea. One life - your life - live it!0
