Advice needed in regards to damage to car

i am unsure as to where to put this as its to do with my car but also to do with the neighbour. ( please move if need be)
Last night i was woken by my daugher who informed me that the neighbours out side were having some sort of dispute.
and i needed to move my car as it could get damaged.
Basically one of the neighbours daughters boyfriends had been told to leave their house and he had been kicked out.
His clothes were all over the road.
The only reason i got involved was because his girlfriend informed me that her boyfriend has thrown a bag containing beer bottles at my car. ( as it was parked out side of my house in the road)
She said that she had gone over to check my car and she could not see any damage. ( however there were several broken bottles in the road)
i moved my car at that point and asked if any one had called the police. No one had, so i went to do it myself. The police did not turn up at all.
it was also apparent that the boyfriend had also kicked another neighbours gate and had broken it in several places.
Any way i went off to bed at that point.
Today i have inspected my car in more detail and can see where the bag of bottles hit my car ( there is a small crease there about 4 inches long)
some one has also cleared all the broken bottles off the road and has left the bag out side my gate( bit cheeky)
so what would you do about this situation.
i dont think i would be that fussed if the car was old but its a 2012 model.
i do not know the young person who did this damage but i am aware that he is about 17 years old. He does not live with his parents and it appears that he no longer lives with his girlfriends parents any more.
Advice needed please.

Talk to your neighbours about what happened and ask if they are willing to confirm what happened with the police. Ring police to report criminal damage to inform them you know who did it and it was witnessed by x, y, z.0

By all means follow Gwylim's advice, but what are you hoping to achieve wrt your car? By all means get a few quotes for repair, if the finish isn't damaged it may be a quick'n'easy job with magnets to pull the dent out, but a 17 yo who is estranged from his parents and has been thrown out of his girlfriend's parents' house is unlikely to be worth pursuing for financial compensation. IMO, of course.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I'd be grateful if a neighbour cleared broken glass up off the street! If they left it there you'd probably moan too. Stick it in the bin, end of0

Sorry to say it sounds like you won't get very far with receiving money back from this vandal. Been in a similar situation myself and had my car damaged during a neighbours argument that spilled out on my drive. My car was 2 months old and I had to put the claim through my own insurance which went down as malicious damage, luckily I had protected no claims but it still pushed my annual payment up, bit sickening really.0
