A moan about these builders !
We are / were doing an extenstion to the rear of our house to accommodate a relative, after researching builders checking references - quotes - companies house etc we settled for HALKO UK Ltd of York.
We were wanting a timber frame for speed and convenience they said they were specialists in this area, we agreed a time scale for the build which was 8 weeks from start to finish give or take a few weeks for bad weather.
The build started with the strip foundations being poured and the dpc brickwork being done ready for the infill - mesh - insulation and concrete to be poured next for the floor. The last we saw from the builder was two weeks ago today, his words being I shall get everything ordered this week and shall be back mid / end of the week to get everything in.
Since then we have heard nothing from him... not a squeek ! at the beginning of the week we though something might have happened to him so I rang their office instead of him direct, I got the message he was on site so try his mobile. I duly tried his mobile several times - and text - and emailed, all of which have gone unanswered.
For some reason unbeknownst to us he's thought "f" it and has simply walked off the job ! Cheers for leaving us in the lurch.... really appreciate it Matthew Douglas :T
So for anyone in the York area HALKO UK Ltd are useless don't touch em with a barge pole.
Luckily they have only been paid for work done.

So what did the head office say was the reason for this?
They are all the same entity hollydays, we have now served them with a notice stating either turn up or get lost and we'll get someone else, even after sending that they / he doesn't want to know so in our eyes it's good riddance !
Next builder we have we will have a contract put in place. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
There is a review from a business supplier!which he then reciprocates, not a great sign admittedly.
Edit-can't do links but there is a review on https://www.mybuilder.com
Where someone else said he did exactly the same thing, walked off job, wouldn't answer calls.
I see his other company dorrington construction has been disallowed from using mybuilder. Com but Halko is still is on there..
They claim to be a member of NHBC .. But are they..presumably this is one of the reasons you went with them..0 -
Hadn't seen those at all !
Looks like he Phoenix's a couple of times a year, supposedly Dorrington construction has been going over 100 years !
I cant view the feedback on my builder - can you post the link without the www. or copy and paste it - would love to see it. ..... Ahhhh found it via google
From My Builder :
"do not hire this man as he will not come back and rectify any mistakes he operates under two companies HALKO & DONNINGTON CONSTRUCTION both of which do not answer the phone and ignore messages left etc his poor workmanship is going to cost us £1.000 to put right potential clients beware he is not a genuine tradesman"
Although it says Donnington it should read DORRINGTON
New business has been set up according to companies house under the guise of ECO THERM CONSTRUCTION registered in POCKLINGTON to avoid getting muddled with any other company. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
If you look at halkos website, at the bottom,
They are showing a different registered office to the one on companies house. It's showing
The meridian
4 copthall house
Station square
Coventry
Cv12fl
This appears to be a mail forwarding type of address.
And they show their company registration number-but miss off the zero at the beginning
If you look at cyclex business directory- they list themselves with the copthall house address, as " Halko Coventry"0 -
But I've seen some reference that this was a previous address, so is it new or old?0

forget about whats happened .... move on
do a self build and save thousands get your your own sub contractors.
it could be a blessing in disguise .to save money“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Given the time if we had it then yes a self build would be ideal, I am doing the internal fit out though so I don't have to worry about that.
Anyhow we had another builder out today who is registered with the Master Builders Federation, he took a look at what work had been done so far and laughed !
He has missed out part of the foundations for a supporting wall.
He hasn't conformed to building regs where the drain passes through the wall.
The middle of the slab hasn't been dug deep enough.
The drain won't have the correct fall.
And a couple of other bits ! Looking at it objectively I think we have had a lucky escape that this cowboy builder didn't do any more work.
So just to reiterate and so that google picks it up.
AVOID
Matt ( Matthew ) Douglas.
Halko Uk Ltd (York)
Dorrington Construction (York)
Eco Therm Costruction (York)
Needless to say a file is being prepared for York Trading Standards, we would sue the bas***d but no doubt he'll fold the company like these to55ers do.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
