Insurance for Macbook

Hi, my parents are going to buy me a Macbook Pro for Christmas as my computer is my life.

I really would like to get it insured against theft and accidental damage if possible? otherwise I will be too scared to take it anywhere which kind of defeats the point of the portability of it!

Is there anywhere which does it?

Thanks in advance.

Applecare is an extended warranty, it doesn't cover theft and accidental damage...which is what the OP was asking about.
  • You can get it covered on your home insurance policy, specified item, and cover of personal possessions away from home. If you live at home, ask your parents to extend their contents cover (if it isn't covered already).

And make sure you have and use a backup. No insurance will get your data back.

So you would recommend Apple Time Capsule?

Yes, I use a Time Capsule to back up both my iMac and MacBook and they are excellent and very simple to set up and once installed they just work.

You can, however, use any external drive, I went for the Time Capsule as it is also a WiFi base station and has three LAN ports and as such costs more than a simple drive. If you don't need the extras then a simple drive will do.
