Refund after PayPal's 45 day day

I purchased a single wool duvet (sold as brand new) a few months ago. For various reasons I have only just come to use it. I only realised it's not new as when I tried to put it into a single duvet cover the duvet is approx 15cm shorter and narrower than the duvet cover. I then compared it to an exact match in the shop and it is clear that the duvet has probably been washed and tumble dried and shrunken and gone stiff. As I am outside PayPal's 45 day buyer protection do I have any consumer rights regarding purchasing something that is advertised as brand new when it is not. Any advice would be great.

  • Absolutely nothing can be done, even if it was a business seller who made a mistake on the listing it is completely unprovable, as it was "a few months ago" you have had ample time to to examine and complain or return for a refund if substandard the case timeline is in place for a reason, as for all paypal know you slept in it, then shrank it in the wash and made it all stiff, there is nothing you can do about it at all now, so just donate it to charity .
NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself"
  • That's what I thought- I was living in hope that it wouldn't be the case. It's only good for bin fodder. But I will certainly not make that mistake again :)

If you used Paypal then it is hard using the chargeback through your bank as you used a 3rd party payment provider

It depends on the bank. My HSBC business are more than happy to chargeback.
