Missed Payment

I have a Capital One credit card. It was due to be paid on 5th Nov but due to all thats been happening in my life, I totally forgot (first time in 3yrs). Remembered last night so went onto account, got charged £12 for late/missed payment so straight away paid £98 leaving £500 balance. I know it takes a couple of days to get to them (which is odd as it leaves my a/c straight away).

I am planning on paying the £500 on Monday so my question is, if I pay the balance, will this still register on my credit file as missed payment?

It might, but it might not.

Some lenders won't register a missed payment if its paid before the next statement is generated, others do.

You could try calling them to ask them (and ask them not to register it).

  • Phew thats gave me some hope, thanks. I'm gonna pay it off on Monday then I'll ring them and beg!
  • Normally Capital One don't show it until after your next statement date so since your next statement hasn't been issued yet, it won't show.

Capital One, like most credit card companies will refund a charge a year. Ask for the £12 back, explain why and they will give you it back. Insist if they don't!

If you are nice to them and they can see its your first time, asking them for it back might work too.....

Set up a direct debit to pay the minimum balance. There's no excuse for late payments.
