Update on house we are renting and crack (for those who know)

Just to update you. The house we are renting has been sold, but it appears that the buyer never saw the crack when she came to view. The surveyor of course picked up the crack and they have to get a structual engineer, who is coming next Tuesday. When they came for a 2nd viewing on Saturday, (without meaning to eavesdrop..well...maybe just a little! :o ) I heard her say to a family member that she can now see where the window sill is bowing upstairs. I would love to know what was in that survey report..none of my business I know..!

Sorry, sold STC. :o Woman never looked too happy when she came around the 2nd time and saw the crack for the first time. I can't understand how anyone could miss it though. It is really in your face when you are in the garden. I really would love to know what the SE says though. Its because of this crack hubby and I never bought this house.

I'm glad she knows :) She can make an informed decision.

Did you get a structural engineer to look at it? I'd be right in there asking him what's wrong (just making sure the house isn't going to fall down around my ears, of course ;))

Hubby and I never wanted to go through with a survey etc to find out it may be something major, ending up wasting money we really cannot afford. We have seen definite movement and the crack has definitely widened with other cracks appearing elsewhere inside, upstairs round the door frames mainly.

If it isn't major, well then we have lost a place we really enjoyed staying at, but so be it. We have bought elsewhere, a street down from where we were.

See if I can get hubby to actually open his mouth and be nosey like me!!! :rotfl: He will be there when the guy visits.

if i were in your former position and not wanting to put a bid in unless i knew about the crack being sorted then i would have got a few builders in for a free quote. At worst it costs you a few hours time to find out what the problem is and you will know how much it is to fix.

offering on a house and then finding a major crack is a bit of an oops but at least they know what needs doing now, did the landlord know about the crack?

Oh most definitely he knew. But I don't think he realised it was right through because a family member of his who is a builder came round to have a look and told the LL it was right through, the LL went a funny shade of green..... The builder said it would cost approx £2400 to fix it, that is opening up the crack, putting in steel rods and filling with resin or somethingy. To my ignorant, inexperienced mind, that doesn't sound as if its sorting out the actual problem, but rather putting a plaster over it.

Pics of the crack are here.....quite frankly I don't know how this buyer missed it!!
