Motor Legal Protection

Fed up of paying the £30-40 per year for this especially when you have two cars and pay it twice.

Just Googled motor legal protection and came up with:

driverguardian.co.uk

This site looks GREAT.... has anyone else got any experience of it?

£7.50 legal protection for two cars seems a great idea to me!!

    Where's Quentin?
    You rang???

Is it a coincidence that these brand new posters are regularly starting threads to give us a full link to this "GREAT" site?

    When you google ........

But you are no better! And you know the rules!
  • I know, it was said in jest really as I don't expect the thread to be about for long.
  • So have I said something wrong?

I have since found that the £15 policy is more like the policy you receive with your car insurance.

Have there been any discussions about this company on here before?

The cheap one requires you to give up some of your compensation to pay for the solicitors fees.

Please Note: Included in this policy are the services to pursue a personal injury claim (a maximum of 25% of personal injury winnings may be asked for, from a successful claim to pay for any additional solicitors fees if needed)

They all do this now since the changes this year,
  • A lot of the policies are going in that direction.

The reason being that often, there are still payments (not "referral fees") but "marketing fees" and other claptrap going on in the background.

The fees a lawyer gets for a non-disputed PI claim is £500 + VAT, paid for by the third party insurers. Typically, the lawyers on the panel of these legal expenses insurers, or those owned by insurers or in bed with a "alterntive business structure" are generally bled £500 for the referral of the client.

So the lawyer makes his living by fleecing 25% out of the PI payments and the legal expenses insurers are happy to facilitate this
  • So I have decided to cancel the £30 per year Driver Legal Protection Policy that I started on the 4th November with eSure and use the £15 per year one from Driver Guardian.

This sounds like a much better option.

I would probably not use the £7.50 one as loosing 25% of any court winnings to pay off the solicitor seems a bit too much.

Has anyone got anything against the £15 per year policy that covers the fees for PI claims?
  • Generally the premiums for the add-on policies, such as legal protection, are non-refundable. So you won't get your money back on the £30 policy you took out on 4th November.

If I'm right, why spend another £15 when you had cover anyway?
