I can hardly believe this myself, but I actually got the money back from the landlord. :j
I had to threaten him with court first. I know it was only for £50, but the fact he lived round the corner and didn't have the decency to communicate with me the whole time really narked me off.
I used Money Claim online so everything was done online and was very very easy. I paid the £30 court fee and took the risk of losing that money as I couldn't resist going after my money on principle.
I also knew that if they wanted to defend themselves in court they had to provide their defence in advance, giving me the chance to prepare or pull out if I felt they had the heavies on their side and was worried about having to pay their court fees.
Turns out I needn't have worried about anything, as within a couple of weeks a cheque for £80 (£50 wrongly taken cleaning fee plus £30 court fee) arrived in the post.
I should have done this a lot earlier. It was so easy, I didn't even have to leave the house because I did it all online....0
